Word Cloud Generator

This tool counts how often each word appears in your text, then draws every word onto a canvas at a size proportional to that count — words used often come out large, words used once come out small. It's a quick way to get a feel for what a piece of writing is actually about without reading the whole thing.

Common filler words ("the", "and", "is", and similar) are filtered out automatically so the cloud isn't dominated by words that appear in almost any English sentence regardless of topic. The layout redraws live as you type, and you can save the finished cloud as a PNG with the download button.

How words are placed and sized

Word size is scaled between the least- and most-frequent word actually present in your text, so the largest word in a short paragraph might be the same size as a mid-frequency word in a longer document — sizing is always relative to the text you gave it, not an absolute scale. Placement uses a spiral search: each word starts near the center and spirals outward until it finds a spot that doesn't overlap an already-placed word. Very long or unusual texts with dozens of distinct words may not all fit on the canvas; if a word's spiral search runs out of room, it's simply left off rather than drawn overlapping another word.

Only the 60 most frequent words are considered at all, since a cloud with hundreds of entries stops being readable as a "cloud" and just becomes noise. Colors are assigned from a fixed palette in frequency order and don't carry any separate meaning beyond helping words stand apart visually.

What text works best?

Anything with real sentence structure and vocabulary variety — articles, essays, speech transcripts, reviews, survey responses — produces a more useful cloud than something short or repetitive.
